Called to the Singapore Bar in 2008, Nawaz is a Director of TLC Law. With a diverse portfolio of cross-border restructuring, insolvency, litigation and arbitration matters, Nawaz has acted in some of the most significant and complex disputes in Singapore and the wider region. He regularly represents insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, funds, corporates, and business owners, often in cases high value claims and multi-jurisdictional issues.

Nawaz has been lead counsel in the Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal and is frequently instructed as Singapore counsel by top international firms. He has acted for liquidators, judicial managers, and receivers from leading professional firms across sectors ranging from oil and gas and logistics to banking, technology, fintech and cryptocurrency.

Restructuring & Insolvency
Nawaz has advised and acted in some of the region’s largest and most complex insolvency proceedings, frequently guiding judicial managers, liquidators, and creditors through multi-jurisdictional processes:
•Acted for PwC in the US$4 billion liquidation of Hin Leong Trading, one of Asia’s largest and most complex insolvencies,        involving high-value claims from global banks and multi-party litigation.
•Acted for Quantuma as judicial managers of Finlync and Atom Asset Exchange (formerly the world’s second largest crypto      exchange), coordinating with professionals across the Cayman Islands, Malta, Hong Kong and Singapore.
•Represented a Hong Kong-listed company, Agritrade Resources, in its global restructuring exercise of over S$450 million        across Bermuda, Hong Kong and Singapore, arising from its widely publicised collapse.
•Advised BlackRock and Ares SSG in relation to a US$50 million loan facility to Take Solutions, and acted in related judicial    management proceedings.
•Represented the BVI liquidators of Six Capital Investments, securing recognition of BVI proceedings in Singapore under the      UNCITRAL Model Law.
•Acted in the restructuring of the Ryobi construction group (PwC), coordinating with multiple firms across Asia.
•Advised The Working Capitol Group, a Singapore-based co-working business, in its novel debt consolidation and pre-            packed scheme involving debts of approximately S$48 million.
 
Commercial Litigation
Beyond insolvency, Nawaz maintains a robust corporate and commercial litigation practice, having acted as lead counsel in high-value disputes:
•Successfully defended a S$16 million High Court claim by a liquidator for alleged breaches of directors’ duties.
•Acted in Super Park Asia Group’s contentious provisional liquidation proceedings, which culminated in a Singapore Court of  Appeal judgment.
•Represented the receivers of Yang Kee Logistics Group (Kroll) in resisting multiple High Court applications and advising on      operations and sale processes.
•Acted for the receivers of Airtrust (Singapore) (EY) in shareholders’ disputes and fiduciary duty claims against former              directors.
•Represented Griffin Real Estate Investment Holdings (EY) in recovery claims exceeding S$65 million against former directors    and third parties.
 
Arbitration & Cross-Border Disputes
Nawaz regularly acts in international arbitrations and cross-border disputes, often instructed as Singapore counsel by international firms:
•Acted for PDV Marina, a Venezuelan state-owned oil company, in successfully resisting enforcement of a US$1.8 billion        ICSID arbitration award — a globally significant decision on state liability and alter ego doctrine.
•Acted for a Cayman venture capital fund in syndicated loan disputes exceeding US$50 million, involving SIAC arbitration,    UNCITRAL Model Law issues, and cross-border enforcement.
•Represented financial institutions and funds in SIAC and ICC arbitrations concerning creditor protection and commercial        disputes across Asia.
 
Banking, Finance & Funds
Nawaz has deep experience acting for banks, funds and asset managers in restructuring, enforcement and litigation:
•Acted for a major Chinese bank in the cross-border liquidation of a Singapore-listed company with debts exceeding S$297    million.
•Represented Deribit, one of the world’s largest crypto derivatives exchanges, in proceedings linked to the collapse of FTX        and Babel, involving over US$4 billion of debt across multiple jurisdictions.
•Acted for a Binance entity in resisting High Court applications by a NASDAQ-listed crypto group undergoing restructuring,    coordinating with Alvarez & Marsal, Gibson Dunn and Quantuma.
•Advised and acted for funds, including BlackRock and Ares SSG, in creditor protection measures and cross-border                restructurings.
 
Other Notable Disputes
Nawaz has also appeared in precedent-setting and diverse matters spanning shareholder disputes, fraud, and asset recovery:
•Acted for Taiwanese investors in a S$4 million fraudulent investment scheme claim.
•Acted as lead counsel in obtaining and executing an Anton Piller order against a former hedge fund employee for breach of  confidence.
•Represented a Silicon Valley founder in a cross-border shareholder dispute involving litigation in Singapore, the US, and        India.
•Successfully defended claims in family trust and estate disputes exceeding S$10 million.
